Instead of pushing people to improve their situation, the system can end up making it easier to stay where they are. Not everyone, of course, but enough to make people question if the program is actually solving poverty or just maintaining it. Because if there’s no clear expectation to grow, work, or build something sustainable, then what’s the long term goal?
